New York City-based saxophonist Jerry Weldon, a charter member of Harry Connick Jr.’s big band and a longtime member of the legendary Lionel Hampton Orchestra, brings his signature tenor sound, technical precision and driving intensity to Daniels Pavilion, joining the Naples Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra for an energetic program rooted in hard bop and soul jazz. A frequent collaborator with trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, Weldon is an internationally active performer and recording artist whose playing moves easily between standards, original material and hard-swinging interpretations. When Jerry Weldon was 14, his jazz fan father took him to see Stan Getz at The Village Vanguard. Since then, Weldon has become an internationally renowned sax man with over 45 years on the scene and a discography of over a dozen recordings as a band leader and many more as a sideman.
